I am Rex Carrington, and I have been employed as a Senior Buyer at Duke's St. Louis Plant since July of 1998. I had previous experience working in the Food Equipment Industry at various Divisions of Southern Equipment Company from 1965 until 1983, with my last job there, being Director of Purchasing. Probably, the most interesting and Challenging experience I have had at Duke was during the inception and subsequent initial roll out of nearly 20,000 PHU's for Burger King during the first 6 months of 2002. What made this so interesting was that I had to insure that adequate amounts of material was available for both St. Louis and Sedalia as we were building a total of 150 units a day between the two plants (60 at St. Louis and 90 at Sedalia).
The other aspect of my position at Duke is that I get to work with a variety of people in various departments. I also get to work with Sales, Engineering and Customer Service people from all the large variety of Vendors I get to deal with who provide the parts and services Duke needs to produce it's products. Every day is a new day and a new challenge, so it never gets dull.
I feel that I have a fairly broad perspective on what makes a Company successful. While Duke is not perfect (no company is) I would have to say that I personally feel that it is a great environment to work in. I especially appreciate the fact that the company strives to stay on the cutting edge of technology, is always looking for new opportunities and is responsive to Customer needs and requirements. The one thing I know for sure from my years of experience is that a company either grows or it will die and from what I can tell Duke has been growing every year since I have been here.
